Three more Digital Education Centres for children and youth have been officially opened in Kherson region. The centres were created as part of a large-scale project. The work of the spaces is coordinated by the Association for Innovative and Digital Education in cooperation with UNICEF and the Kherson Regional State Administration. The new space was opened at a safe distance from the line of fire. The main condition was the ability to provide shelter for the Centre's visitors. All three locations were created in the Velyko Oleksandrivska community on the basis of local educational institutions.

The event was attended by representatives of:

Anatolii IHNATOVYCH, UNICEF Education Project Coordinator;

Tetiana RODIONOVA, Coordinator of the Southern Education Cluster (UNICEF);

Tetiana KORNIICHUK, Head of the Department of Out-of-School and Special Education at the Department of Education and Science of the Kherson Regional State Administration;

Olena KOBELYATSKA, Head of the Department of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports of the Velyko Oleksandrivka Village Council;

Volodymyr LITVINOV, Head of the Beryslav District Military Administration;

Nataliia PIDHURSKA, coordinator of the Digital Learning Centres (DLC) in Odesa and Kherson regions;

As well as representatives of local authorities, administrations of educational institutions and coordinators of Digital Learning Centres in the respective localities.

The guests visited all three centres, got acquainted with their technical capabilities available to every child in the community, discussed the further development of the locations and their use during the holidays and summer, and the need for such centres in other communities.

The attendees were shown interactive lessons on bridging knowledge gaps, which used The Catch-Up Learning Ecosystem with the Help of Artificial Intelligence. This product was specially developed by the Association of Innovative and Digital Education for use in centres. They also presented the testing of a new educational product that will soon be used to teach teenagers in the frontline regions.

The mission of the Digital Education Centres is to provide education to students who do not have full access to offline education and help them catch up on their educational losses.

During 2024-2025, a network of Digital Learning Centres (DLC) was established to provide access to education in the southern regions of Ukraine to ensure access to education in the context of war, implemented by the Association for Innovative and Digital Education (AIDE) and UNICEF with the support of the Government of Japan and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).

For example, there are 9 DLCs in the Kherson region, providing children and young people with the opportunity to catch up on their education, attend ‘Lessons for Life’, educational and developmental classes, work with a psychologist, and socialise and communicate with peers and teachers.

Students aged 6 to 18 can attend the jointly created Digital Education Centres free of charge:

- use AI to identify which subjects and topics from the school curriculum they need to catch up on;

- learn through interactive case studies and flipped classroom technology;

- receive individual consultations to make up for educational losses through a special application (Uber School);

- acquire the skills that are most in demand in the 21st century through Lessons for Life;

- have fun with a special educational programme ‘Minecraft Education’;

- determine their level of proficiency and master Ukrainian and English;

- receive psycho-emotional support;

- create a Passport of Abilities for 1,000+ modern professions with the help of certified vocational adaptive testing, determine the profession of your dreams and build an individual trajectory for further education and career.

‘Digital educational centres open up new prospects for education in Kherson region, which is still in the online format, helping students overcome challenges and compensate for the losses caused by the war. Students in our region need support in bridging knowledge gaps and mastering the latest technologies, and teachers need methodological support and the use of technical capabilities by each student,’ - comments Tetiana Korniichuk, Head of the Out-of-School and Special Education Department of the Kherson Regional State Administration.

‘Our team is very pleased with the cooperation with our partner, which has allowed us to create such centres in locations where they are needed. We also appreciate the fact that we managed not only to make beautiful and technically equipped classrooms, but also to fill the content of education with new opportunities and technologies: educational, developmental, and gaming. All this contributes to the development of children in Kherson region,’ - says Anatoliy Ignatovych, UNICEF Education Project Coordinator.

The Association for Innovative and Digital Education, in addition to the project to create Digital Education Centres, has been successfully developing The Network of Ukrainian Education Hubs in Ukraine, as well as in the EU, the UK, Japan, and the US, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, since the beginning of the full-scale war.

‘Our team strives not just to open Digital Education Centres, but to turn them into real educational hubs for children, teenagers and educators in the communities most affected by the war. It is important for us to help children learn, shape their personalities, develop their skills and improve their communication capabilities. We want such centres to appear in communities regardless of the number of children, because now every child needs attention and care,’ - said Dmytro Bondarenko, Deputy Chairman of the Association of Innovative and Digital Education.
